MENTAL HEALTH

According to NHS Digital, 1 in 6 children aged five to sixteen were identified as having a mental health problem in July 2021. This is a huge increase from 1 in 9 in 2017. This is five children in every classroom.

At ASK PIP Charity, we have found that it is important to incorporate mental health and trauma awareness with education because it can be difficult for a child or young people to learn if they are silently struggling with their mental health.

Nearly half of 17 to 19-year-olds with a diagnosable mental health disorder have self-harmed or attempted suicide at some point, rising to 52% for young females (NHS Digital 2018).

At ASK PIP Charity, we aim to provide free or subsidised counselling or mental health support for families from low-income households, children or young persons in care, and children or young persons in need.

We will aim to provide several counselling sessions by one of our qualified therapists or counsellors. All our therapists are qualified and registered with The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or any reputable professional body. Our therapist team are checked and have experience in helping families, couples, and individuals across various issues.

They are also required to adhere to our safeguarding policy.

Eligibility will be means tested as we aim to support those from low-income families/households.

EDUCATION

Fulfilling one's potential is one of the keys to happiness. At ASK PIP charity, we provide bespoke educational support for children and young people as an alternative where classroom-based learning has failed. This ensures that our leaders of tomorrow are given another chance at fulfilling their potential.

During the application process, our students are assessed, and it is through this assessment that a bespoke educational plan is developed specifically to the needs of the student.

Where education on the main subject areas may not be suitable for the young person or child, they will be enrolled on our bespoke resilience programme. Please get in touch with us for more information on this programme.

Students will be allocated some tutoring support sessions. This will either be on a 1-1 student-to-tutor ratio or a small group of no more than 3 to 1 student-to-tutor ratio. All our tutors/teachers are qualified and/or experienced in the field of education and the subject area in which they teach. They are DBS-checked and must adhere to our safeguarding policy.

We aim to inspire, motivate and champion the success of vulnerable children and young people so they are given another chance to thrive holistically.

VOCATION

Nothing is more demoralizing for a young person than wanting a job without experience or knowing what field to work in. When young people have a chance to thrive, this can be life-changing. This is why, at ASK PIP Charity, we utilize local employers and organisations by collaborating with them in providing practical training and work experiences for young people and helping them to figure out their passion and skills.

We help by providing support with the following:

– CV preparation

– Interview Preparation

– Placement/skilled workshop

– Work experience

Everyone that comes in contact with young people that use our service are required to be DBS checked, adhere to our risk management and safeguarding policy and must have the required insurance to support our young people.

Our aim is to:

– Protect young people from organised crime.

– Protect them from exploitation

– Tackle homelessness

– Provide them with another chance at being employable citizens with a revived ambition and plan for their future.

MEET THE TEAM

Charity governance represents a set of standards for good practice which all charities should aspire to achieve.

Governance is the “systems and processes concerned with ensuring the overall direction, effectiveness, supervision and accountability of an organisation.

(The Governance of Voluntary Organisations, Cornforth 2003)

Peace Anumah – CEO, Founder and Secretary of the Trustee

Peace Anumah brings over eighteen years of experience as a psychotherapist, mental health advocate, coach, mentor and trainer. As a result of her passion and zeal for supporting vulnerable children and young people, she set up this charity in 2022.

During her time working with a virtual school for a local authority, Peace Anumah identified key barriers and challenges and wanted to do her part in providing a different future for the next generation of children and young people in care, as well as children and young people in need.

“My passion for helping vulnerable children and young people led me to set up this charity. One size doesn’t fit all. Not every child will learn in a classroom environment, and that’s ok. We must provide an alternative learning method to give our children and young people another chance to fulfil their full potential.”
